TrainingTips.com: Do you think that “cookie cutter” work outs will become a thing of the past?

Mikhael: I do eventually. Most “cookie cutter” work outs get you some results quickly, but what happens after that? If you want to lose extra inches or help an injury get better so that you can function properly, those “cookie cutter” programs will not get you what you are looking for. Clients that come to me after doing those programs realize how much they were missing in getting the results they were really looking for.

TrainingTips.com: What are some tips for preventing injuries during workout sessions?

Mikhael: You should ALWAYS foam roll or use some type of myofacial release techniques to get muscles activated so that you can move to the next step which would be a dynamic warm up. Foam rolling helps with muscle tightness and regenerates the body and dynamic warm ups get your body ready for movement whether it is doing a total body workout or cardio training. I’m a big believer in doing unilateral exercises (single arm/leg) so that you can see where your imbalances are and you can strengthen your joints and muscles a lot more efficiently than doing things with two arms or two legs.

TrainingTips.com: You’ve been open for just a year. Why do you think that you’ve been able to grow and find success in such a short period of time?

Mikhael: Word of mouth and hitting the street to make people aware of where I am and what I’m doing. I never have ever been comfortable with talking to people. My thing was when I get you through the door and train you, at that time hooked. This is a business that I am trying to be very successful in so I had to get out and make it happen. I believe if you go above and beyond what you are charging for training and your clients are getting results, they become your “human billboard” and they will get people through your door.

TrainingTips.com: Do your think that the time you spent playing for the NFL, has influenced your approach to personal training?

Mikhael: I do believe my NFL experience helps because I know how hard it is to workout and have the proper nutrition to get the results you need. I make sure that everyone that comes through my doors is working outside of their comfort zone to get maximum results. There are a lot of bad trainers out there that are just out there to make money and not working for the clients best interest so I take training my clients personal.

TrainingTips.com: Do you believe that most serious athletes should be taking part in some sort of strength conditioning program?

Mikhael: I believe this to be true because you will never reach your peak performance unless you do. People usually reach a certain plateau and never go beyond that. The combination of the two, Strength then the conditioning are important to work together because this is where you will see your results come into play. These two combined together will have you burn fat for a longer period of time as opposed to separate the two.

TrainingTips.com: How important is the mind/body connection when it comes to achieving success and reaching fitness goals?

Mikhael: Having the attitude that you can’t do something or something is too hard does not sit well with me at MRSPFitness. Your mind controls everything you does; you don’t let your body control your mind. I often time have clients come in and tell me what they can’t do because they have never been comfortable trying to do a particular movement, their prior training experience left a bad taste in their mouth and they have never tried. Their mind has made them believe they can’t do something. So I just give them a heavier weight, I make them do the extra weights, I make them believe in themselves. Only once they get over this obstacle is when they get and see the results they have been looking for. I will never put any of my clients in any position to injure themselves and I guarantee my results.
